Amidst a pandemic, it is hard to travel. I know that almost everyone's plans have been put on hold, including mine. Every summer we usually go up North to Ohio and Pennsylvania to see friends and family; however, due to COVID-19, we are unable to go up there this summer. It has been a tradition since we were little, but my grandma's nursing home is not opened to the public, and we would not want to expose her to it (if we were to take her out to places).
So, this summer, we will be taking a small road trip to Covington, Georgia (and stopping in Atlanta), for my 17th birthday this Thursday.
Yes, we will be driving six and a half hours to get a small town in Georgia. This town is somewhat-famous, though. People from all around the world visit this small town. Why? You might ask.
For those of you who know me, I LOVE TV Shows and Movies, including anything supernatural, mystery, romance, etc. Covington, Georgia is where most of The Vampire Diaries was filmed and in nearby locations The Originals and Legacies.
I am SO excited for this trip! It may not be what it usually is, but it is a nice weekend getaway. We are staying at the Old Lockwood Mansion (called the Twelve Oaks), which is very exciting since some of the show was filmed there. For TVD fans, it was Stefan and Damon's house in 1864. There are various scenes filmed (some pictured below), including Stefan and Katherine dancing, and Stefan, Damon, and Katherine playing in the front yard.
The address of the Twelve Oaks Mansion is 2176 Monticello St SW, Covington, GA 30014.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with The Vampire Diaries, it is a TV show based on the books by L.J. Smith. The show and books are supposed to take place in Mystic Falls, Virginia (although the show is filmed primarily in Georgia). It is about two vampire brothers (Stefan and Damon Salvatore) who return to their hometown and a teenage girl (Elena Gilbert) who is torn between them. It may sound a little cliché, but it is a great show if you are willing to stick with it. There is so much drama and horror. The CW is one of my favorite TV networks and they produced the show and even introduced two spin-off shows, The Originals and Legacies. So, if you are interested, I highly recommend the show(s). And if you are ever near the Atlanta area, you should swing by Covington.
This is not my usual blog post, but I wanted to share our plans amongst the pandemic. Although we cannot do what we normally do, following CDC guidelines we can take a small trip and explore nearby areas that we may never have considered before.
UPDATE: We had an amazing trip. It was so much fun. We visited Convington and got to see Elena's House, Caroline's House, The New Lockwood Mansion, Southview Cemetery, etc. We stayed in the Old Lockwood Mansion, which they filmed flashback scenes at (as I mentioned previously). We ate at the Mystic Grill and went to Scoops afterward (where the cast occasionally went). My sister got a vampire latte at Bread and Butter, which was the drink that Nina Dobrev (Elena) ordered. Overall, it was a very fun experience and I highly recommend it. If you have any questions, feel free to comment.
Covington is such a fun place to visit. Love that you shared this.
